During his 21-year legal career, he has focused on real estate and business law matters. He has represented clients on the most complex of real estate transactions, but he is equally comfortable representing clients on small residential transactions. In addition to being a real estate attorney, Mr. Nesbitt is a Colorado-licensed real estate broker and operates the commercial brokerage firm The Nesbitt Group (www.thenesbittgroup.com) with Keller Williams and KW Commercial.
He is Past President of the Denver Metropolitan Commercial Association of Realtors (DMCAR) and served as the 2006 Chairman of the Rocky Mountain Commercial Real Estate Expo and Fall Forecast. He was honored as the 2009 Commercial Realtor of the Year by DMCAR and the Denver Business Journal. He is treasurer of the Colorado Bar Association’s Solo and Small Firm Committee and a member of the Real Estate Section of the Colorado Bar Association
Mr. Nesbitt earned his Law Degree and Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1991. He has a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the University of Illinois.
Kathy Nesbitt was appointed by Governor John Hickenlooper in January 2011 as the Director of Personnel for the State of Colorado and Executive Director of the Department of Personnel & Administration. Since starting with the state, Kathy developed and passed a statewide ballot initiative that updated the State’s 92-year-old personnel system; oversees the State’s $8 billion in annual procurement spend; secured funding for the complete replacement of the State’s 20-year-old financial reporting system, which processes $28.8 billion in expenditure transactions annually; and implemented process improvements in the State’s tax document processing systems that will result in $2.1 million in annual savings. Last year, Kathy was named one of nine “2013 Public Officials of the Year” by Governing Magazine for her leadership on the Talent Agenda, which allows the state to better recruit, reward and retain the state’s workforce.
Kathy has spent the majority of her career as a labor and employment attorney, and possesses her Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification. She earned her Juris Doctorate from Southern
University Law Center and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
John H. Patteson, Jr.’s practice focuses primarily in the areas of commercial litigation, commercial transactions, and general corporate matters. John is licensed in both Colorado and Georgia and is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts in each of those states. His clients have ranged from large public companies to small and medium sized businesses and individuals.
With over 25 years of experience, John has handled a broad array of commercial litigation matters in both federal and state courts, including business torts, breach of contract matters, partnership conflicts, restrictive covenants, IP disputes, real estate, and bankruptcy related issues. He has been lead counsel in jury and bench trials and has resolved numerous matters through either arbitration or mediation. On the business and transactional side, he has advised clients on corporate governance, LLC and partnership matters, securities issues, and a broad array of commercial transactions.
After John arrived in Denver in 2013, he served as in house counsel for two start up energy companies, Ciris Energy and First River Energy, before returning to private practice in 2016. John is also the Managing Partner of Patteson, LLP. Prior to coming to Denver, John practiced law in Atlanta at Byrne, Davis &; Hicks and Troutman Sanders.
John’s experience in both private practice and as in house counsel allows him to bring both a business and a client-oriented perspective to his practice.
Mr. Patteson earned his Law and Master of Business Administration degrees (JD/MBA) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel in 1989. He has a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of North Carolina.
Shannon P. Tarango is a certified legal assistant and former short sale coordinator for real estate agents throughout the state of Colorado. Shannon is passionate about helping people, and draws on her experience negotiating short sales and helping homeowners avoid foreclosure.
Shannon has been with the firm for over 3 years and manages operations for both the Law Offices of Eric L. Nesbitt and the Nesbitt Commercial Group.
Mrs. Tarango is a certified legal assistant from the University of Colorado Denver and former licensed real estate broker in the state of Colorado. She attended Bear Creek High School and graduated early via an accelerated educational program at Penn Foster.
